Gordon Willett, Wooden Feather Carvings

As a young boy Gord would spend countless hours whittling with a paring knife and a bar of Ivory soap, and later with a Swiss army knife and a block of wood.  It was not until much later while on vacation with his young family in Camdem Maine that Gord became inspired by the site of a full size carving of an American Bald Eagle. From that moment on his love of carving was rekindled. That was more than 25 years ago and a lot of wood chips have hit the floor since then.

Gord has been instructing woodcarving for over two decades, first in Saint John and then since 1999 in Fredericton.

Gord approaches each and every piece of work wanting to create as much realism as possible. He is particularly drawn to the raptors. They hold a special spirit and intensity that I like to capture if I can. The works of Floyd Scholtz have always been an inspiration.
